Choosing a Suitable Time or Date
Choosing the right time is one of the most complex tasks for an astrologer. In doing so, we are dependent on the combination of planetary factors within a given time interval, and it is very often difficult to find a truly good date during the period when a client has decided to start a business or get married. Elective astrology is the choice of the most suitable time to begin something in order to achieve the best possible result; for this purpose, very specific rules are applied, some of which have been verified over the centuries. Many of the rules are related to horary astrology, but they are applied differently.
In electional astrology, the chart is calculated for the place where the event will happen - for example, if the wedding will be in London, the coordinates of London and local time are used.
The position of the Moon is of primary importance in electional astrology, although the planets ruling the chosen event are also very important. The aspects of the transiting Moon describe the development and outcome of the event, and favorable Sun-Moon connections always contribute to the positive result of the event.
Still, it should be noted that astrological time selection is precise, complex, and has nothing to do with the recommendations in lunar calendars, which may be good for planting strawberries and flowers, but can prove destructive if used for surgical operations.
Lunar calendars certainly have their place and can be curious leisure reading, but they are very far from the complex set of rules and requirements of true electional astrology. The retrograde motion of planets, especially Mercury, can also be taken into account even without knowing other principles, but rather as a general limitation for something, and not as some categorical prohibitions on our actions.
Before choosing the time for action, it is good to look at the personal horoscope, what is embedded in it by birth, and what exactly the influences in it are at the present moment. Even the best-chosen time to start a business cannot work miracles if at the same time negative influences of Saturn, Uranus, or Pluto are present in the natal chart. A well-chosen time to look for a job cannot help you if your qualification has nothing to do with the place you are applying for.
