Choosing a Date for a C-Section Birth

Choosing a Date for a C-Section Birth

In recent years in Bulgaria, the number of births via C-section has increased sharply for various reasons. Since this type of birth allows parents to select a date - and in some cases, an hour - it naturally creates an opportunity to choose the best possible option, which is the subject of elective astrology.

First and foremost, it is necessary to mention that natural birth is unquestionably the best outcome that can be achieved. However, when that is simply not possible, what questions should we ask ourselves regarding the choice of timing? During the 1970s, French astrologer Michel Gauquelin conducted a thorough study of this issue, as C-section births were booming in popularity in the United States at the time. His conclusions are interesting: he noted that if this practice were to expand too widely, there would be an excess of "leaders" - or rather, artificially selected leaders. C-sections are typically performed during morning hours until noon, which places the Sun in specific houses of the horoscope. These solar positions are associated with leadership qualities, a drive to command or be followed, and a reduced inclination toward compromise. Society ultimately requires a balance that nature obviously provides through natural birth. Gauquelin's other conclusion was that in natural births, specific planetary constellations from the horoscopes of parents and grandparents recur in the baby's chart, transmitting family talents, tendencies, shared energies, and perhaps lineage liabilities. C-sections generally do not produce such a high frequency of recurring constellations, suggesting a potential disruption in ancestral continuity.

In my view, it is also essential to emphasize that unlike other date selections, choosing this date cannot be determined by the astrologer alone. The parents must participate and make the decision themselves based on the detailed information for each potential date provided by the astrologer.

The horoscope is the instrument through which the soul fulfills its chosen path, containing a spectrum of possibilities. Each potential date defines distinct character traits and specific tendencies. For this reason, I believe this should be a carefully considered decision made by the parents rather than an automatic acceptance of a date deemed optimal by someone else. Astrology reflects life: there is no single "best" destiny, no perfectly harmonious character, and no definition of abundant luck that guarantees a cloudless path for a child. Within any given multi-day window, there will always be disharmonious aspects, and we will always have to place the so-called malefic planets in one house or another.

Typically, the birth date must be chosen within a window of 7 to 10 days. Within this timeframe, certain planetary placements and long-term aspects cannot be altered and will remain fixed. The factor that changes most rapidly is the Moon's position, as it moves into a new sign approximately every 2.5 days.
For example, if the child is to be born under the sign of Aries, the Moon might pass through Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces during that timeframe, offering a choice between three distinct Sun-Moon combinations. The Sun-Moon combination is fundamental to character in many respects and warrants careful thought. Harmonious combinations are not a guaranteed formula for success or an easier path; in many cases, they can generate an excess of similar element energy, especially if other planets reside in the same element. For instance, the combination of Sun in Aries and Moon in Capricorn features a disharmonious aspect between the two luminaries. Yet it is an exceptionally strong, willful combination - a German astrologer referred to it as "The Iron Strategist" and noted it was Bismarck's combination. The Aries-Aquarius combination is highly self-reliant, driven, and growth-oriented, though combined with other chart factors it can yield arrogance, fickleness, or inflexibility in relationships. The Aries-Pisces combination is deeply sensitive, emotional, and hesitant, yet highly creative and intuitive. It defines entirely different qualities that are by no means better or worse - simply different. These individuals continuously test the waters, rely on their intuition, and once confident, commit with extraordinary passion and success.

The next stage involves assessing the aspects active on these days, keeping in mind that the Moon's aspects will vary most. While every configuration is unique, classical rules dictate selecting days where the Moon forms the maximum number of favorable aspects and the fewest challenging ones. Here, too, automated decisions are unwise: a disharmonious aspect between the Moon and Mars manifests differently in a boy's chart compared to a girl's. Therefore, examining and weighing the distinct possibilities remains essential.

The third major step is determining whether the approximate hour of birth can be chosen, which defines the Ascendant. Between 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM, three different signs rise, placing the Ascendant in one of them. The Sun-Moon-Ascendant triad forms the core foundation of a person's character and outlook, allowing the Ascendant to complement, balance, or adjust certain weaknesses in the Sun-Moon pairing. Furthermore, the birth hour determines house placements: birth around 8:00 AM places the Sun in the 12th house, whereas birth around 12:00–1:00 PM places it in the 10th house, presenting markedly different trajectories for the child's life path. Applying rules literally here is equally shortsighted - a Sun in the 10th house does not automatically guarantee leadership or high social status. Many world leaders, such as Margaret Thatcher, were born with the Sun in the 12th house and reached the summit later in life after a winding early path. The 12th house represents hidden resources, and a 12th-house Sun can grant access to ideas from unconventional sources - what some term the "collective unconscious" or information fields beyond standard perception. The power residing in the 12th house is extraordinary, but it cannot be handed to someone on a silver platter; it must be developed through internal awareness and growth. Moreover, placing an ambitious Sun in the 10th house is of questionable value if challenging planets and aspects simultaneously affect difficult houses.

Finally, where possible, establishing a connection between the elements of the parents and the child is beneficial. If the child's Moon or Ascendant shares a sign or element (fire-fire, air-air) with the parents' Sun, Moon, or Ascendant, it significantly enhances mutual understanding and communication.
